The trip report

Written by a member

Just Fred and I today for this great hike. Weather was great, little cool in the morning so had to do some critical thinking about clothing before heading to the meet up.

The LL parking area was essentially empty when I arrived and the trail was really quiet (nice!) in the morning, but more folks showed up as the day progressed, including dogs and kids, and some requisite eye candy which is always nice. Enough snow maybe ½ mile from the lake to put on spikes, but the monorails overall were easy to navigate. Some dramatic ice and rock navigation on the Kinsman trail for the final push to Cannon, but that only made. Stopped at the hut on Lonesome Lake for some lunch on the way back down. So pretty leisurely hike really, back down at 2:30.

About this event

Join us for a hike up to Mt. Cannon via Lonesome Lake. We will meet at the Lafayette Campground and hike up the Lonesome Lake Trail to Lonesome Lake. After reaching the lake, we will continue around the lake and hike further up to the Kinsman trail which will lead us to Mt. Cannon. Hikers that don't want to continue can turn back at this point. Weather conditions are looking good. Anticipate some mud, monorails, snow - we will need microspikes. The hike up to Cannon Mountain via Lonesome Lake is 6 miles with a 2381 foot elevation gain (6-7 hours total). https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-hampshire/cannon-mountain-loop-trail--2
