About this event

Come on along for yet another fun winter hike in the always beautiful & fascinating Arnold Arboretum!  Beginning at the main entrance, our hike will take us throughout the entire preserve for about four miles.  Highlights will include taking in the spectacular views of Boston and surroundings from the high hills, ascending the summit of Hemlock Hill, exploring the Pinetum, and viewing the magnificent tree and and shrub specimens.  We'll also explore some off-the-beaten track & little known corners and admire some of the oldest trees there (150+ years!).  The Arnold Arboretum is an almost 300-acre treasure operated by Harvard University on land owned by the City of Boston.  A national Historic Landmark, it's one of the finest examples of landscape design by the renowned Frederick Law Olmsted.  Because of the vagaries of Boston winter weather, please dress with the appropriate outdoors gear, wear good hiking shoes and bring a liter of water.  After our extensive walk, we'll head over to the nearby, vibrant Jamaica Plain Center where we'll have a real good schmooze, brews and early dinner at the local favorite eatery, The Galway House.  Note: steady rain/blizzard date is the next day: Sun., Feb. 26th.

One thing we forgot to mention, if you are taking the T to the Arboretum, check the MBTA schedule. For the past couple of years they have been closing the Haymarket station on weekends because of ongoing work on the parking garage. At times they have also been closing sections of the Orange Line and the Green Line (D & E), but for this weekend the latest status is that they are only closing the Haymarket station. Nevertheless, check just to make sure that's all that's closed.
