The trip report

Written by dnaturist

Two of us did this hike over a 4 hour period. We had sunny weather in the 70's with a slight breeze.

This hike through Florida prairie was differend than the previous day's hike. There were an absence of pine trees on this section of the trail. We did a little over a mile of hammock though.  Godwin Hammock , where we had the only shade for the day.

If you have a phobia of walking through high grass, this was not the hike for you.

About this event

The hike on the Florida National Scenic Trail will begin at FR 9 and head north to the Jackson Lake Boat Ramp. It will be a one-way hike and will require a car shuttle.

This section of the Florida Trail is Florida prairie land and will have very little shade. So a hat and lots of water will be required for the hike. We can count on some shade as we pass through the Godwin Hammock and as we approach Lake Jackson near the end of the hike. The trail will be flat with some sandy spots. So comfortable shoes or boots should be worn.

Plan on spending 5 hours on the trail.
