The trip report

Written by tdefauw

Thanks to Max, Jon T, John L, Jim, Kieran, and Desmond (and of course Macy!) for joining Joe and I on the hike to Mount Livermore today via the Brooks Fisher Trail. It was in the 50s and cloudy. We brought microspikes just in case due to the snow/rain event on Friday, but fortunately we didn't need them, as there were just a few portions that had an inch or two of snow on it. The Brooks Fisher Trail was just created a few years ago, and is a very gentle way up to the Squam Ridge with a lot of switchbacks. Once we got up to the Squam Ridge and got on the Crawford Ridgepole Trail, there were views of Squam Lake almost the whole way as the leaves were not on the trees yet. We had lunch with great views at Mount Livermore, and then we backtracked to Old Mountain Road and took that back down to Perch Pond Road and walked along the road back to the parking space. We then went to get coffee and baked goods from Squam Market and continued our conversation at a picnic table outside. Thanks to everyone for great conversation and camaraderie today!

About this event

Join us for a beautiful loop hike to Mt Livermore in the Squam Range.   We will take the Brooks Fisher Trail up to the Crawford Ridgepole Trail, and then the Crawford Ridgepole Trail over to Mount Livermore.   The Brooks Fisher Trail was recently constructed a few years, and is very gentle.    After Mount Livermore, we'll backtrack down to Old Mountain Road, and take Old Mountain Road down to the road, and then a mile or so walking on the road back to the car.    The total distance is around 5 miles and 1000 feet of elevation.

The Squam Lake Association will make an assessment tomorrow morning on whether to open the trails for this weekend as they've been closed for mud season and we're getting some snow today. I'll check on that tomorrow and post by the afternoon on this hike is a go for Sunday, or whether we'll have to do a substitute hike like Plymouth Mountain.

Squam Lake trails are open, so the hike will go on as planned tomorrow! Look forward to seeing everyone!

We probably don't need microspikes, but maybe a good idea to bring them along in your backpack just in case.

A perfect Sunday hike, leisurely trails that meander back & forth, and up & down! The land is punctuated in historic vestiges of a bygone era and our walking encyclopedia & in-house comedian JT filled us in on all the subtle details as we passed by.....of course imbued with his signature wit! Thanks again for a great day Thad & Joe, see you guys on the next trail!
