Very nice moderate hike on the AT.
The trip report
Written by dnaturist
This was a nice moderate hike on the AT,. It started off with a moderate, but long climb to High Rock (4460 ft) from Sams Gap. then it dipped to Rice Gap before making its last big climb to Frozen Knob ( 4400 ft). From there is was a long descent to Devil Fork Gap. Along the way we passed through an old apple orchard.
Near the end of our hike we came to a nice waterfall. Nice photo ops.
Three of us did this hike in nice weather in abut 4.5 hours. The hike was mostly in forest with only a couple of spots with views.

About this event
This will be a one-way hike that will require an auto shutte.
The hike begins with an ascent of about 1.7 miles to High Rock (4460 ft.). It is a rather gradual ascent of about 550 ft. From here we shall begin a descent of about 650 feet to Rice Gap about 2.7 miles into the hike.
The ascent from Rice Gap brings us to Big Flat at about.4.4 miles. At about 4.9 miles we will come to Frozen Knob, which appears to be a pointed peak from the valley and gets snow and frost when the valley is warmer. From here we have a steep descent to Sugarloaf Gap at 6.4 miles. From here we begin another steep descent to Devil Fork Gap, on a well mainteined trail and the end of our hike..
