AT Hike - Indian Grave Gap to Iron Mountain Gap
Nice 11.9 mile hike - with some rain.
The trip report
Written by dnaturist
There were two of us on this hike. The day started off cloudy and about 3 miles into the hike the heavens opened up and next 6.5 miles we had rain.
Not much in the way of views, but we had nice lush forest. We reached a nice grassy hill top with great views as the rains stopped and the clouds cleared.
This hike had lots of Flaming Azaleas in bloom.

About this event
The hike begins at Indian Grave Gap on TN 395, and goes north, climbing through a rhododendron tunnel. About one mile into the hike we will cross USFS 230. The trail will then follow a gently ascending ridge with a view of the NC mountains.
About two miles into the hike we will come across an open meadow at the edge of Beauty Spot Bald. There should be plenty of spring flowers in bloom. We will then drop into Deep Gap before ascending Unaka Mountain summit (5180 ft.). After reaching Unaka we will take a long descent to Cherry Gap Shelter. We will have one more ascent to Little Bald Knob before descending to Iron Mountain Gap, at TN107/NC226.
