1st Sunday Breakfast and Hike
Chilly but peaceful hike around the swamps of Henricus
The trip report
Written by a former member
It was a chilly, overcast day--a day one might want to sit by a fire and enjoy a good book or movie-but I decided to head out on my planned hike around the Henricus Wildlife refuge which has quite a few down and back spurs, which adds another 2.5 miles to the 4 mile loop. Due to the heavy rains and snow all winter and due to high tide, the water was quite high...several feet higher than last time we hike this loop in January 2018

About this event
http://henricus.org/ This is a little hidden gem right in our back yard. And with miles of trails all around the river, too. Let’s start out the year right with an easy 2 hour walk around the lowlands of the James River. There is no fee for hiking around the park and conservation area. Unfortunately the Historical Park with Historical buildings which replicate what it might have looked like in 1611 and the great visitor’s center will be closed until January 15th.
For those that want to join us for breakfast, we’ll be eating at the IHOP a few mile south. For breakfast, we’ll meet at the IHOP at 8:30 a.m.
Bring water/hot chocolate and a snack. Check the weather and prepare for a possibly windy hike.
Hike will begin at 10 a.m. at 251 Henricus Park Road.
