About this event

This hike will travel south to north on the Appalachian Trail from Deep Gap to the Timber Ridge Trail to USFS 67. 8.1 mies will be on the AT.

The hike will be moderate in difficulty but will start with a nice climb to Standing Indian Mountain. Standing Indian Mountain is the highest point south of the Smokies (5498 Ft.), and it is the southern most mile high peak on th AT. The azaleas should be in bloom for this walk in the woods.

Plan to be on the trail 6 to 7 hours.

This hike will require a shuttle. The hike will be west of Franklin. It is about 20 miles to the furthest trailhead at Deep Gap (14 miles on US 64 and 6 miles on USFS 71). The other trailhead, for Timber Ridge Trail, is also west of Franklin (9 miles on US 64 and about 7.4 miles on USFS 67.

We will be meeting at the Huddle House (located on US 441) in Franklin, NC at 9:30 AM. We will depart the Huddle House, to drive to the trailheads, promptly at 10:00 AM. I would like to be on the trail by 11:00 AM.
