The trip report
Three of us (two from other sites) hiked an 8.1 mile section of the Florida National Scenic Trail. The first half of the hike was on a nice tree canopied trail. Half way through the hike we came upon the Wekiva River and a large group of kayakers at a State Parks function.
On the second half of the hike the terrain left us without much shade as the soil was very sandy (poor) and not much but scrub was growing there.
We saw only two others hikers on the trail. Very peaceful hike between the Cassia Trailhead and the Bear Pond Trailhead.

About this event
We will hike a section of the Florida Trail that runs through the Seminole State Forest between SR 44 and SR 46.
The SR 46 trailhead parking is at Bear Pond Trailhead near Sanford. The SR 44 trailhead parking is at the Cassia Trailhead between Eustis and Deland. We will shuttle between the trailheads to allow us to do a one way hike. There is a $2 usage fee at each trailhead (self-pay stations).
The 8.1 mile hike should take about 4 hours.
We will leave the morning meeting place (Hardee's) at 9:00 AM.
