About this event
Thought about doing the Appalachian Trail (AT), Long Trail (LT) or some other long distance hiking trek but wondered what it would be like? This trip will introduce you to the basics of long-distance hiking. The Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway (MSG) is a 50-mile (80 km) hiking trail that traverses the highlands of southern New Hampshire from Mount Monadnock in Jaffrey to Mount Sunapee in Newbury. Located approximately 27 miles (43 km) from the city of Concord, New Hampshire, the trail traverses a rural, heavily glaciated and metamorphic upland studded with lakes, heath barrens, the rocky summits of several monadnocks, and dense woodland of the northern hardwood forest type. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monadnock-Sunapee_Greenway).
No tents are needed as we will be sleeping in shelters long the way. You will need to carry a stove, fuel, clothing layers, sleeping bag and sleeping pad. I can help you figure out what to bring along as the trip date gets closer.
Comparatively speaking the MSG is an easy-moderate thru-hike. It is mostly flat. Although mild compared to the AT or LT, you can see from the itinerary that there are 10+ mile days when we are not hiking up Sunapee or Monadnock, so you should be in good shape and able to carry a 40+ pound pack that distance.
And afterward you can get an end-to-end er patch!
