About this event

When:  Saturday, October 3 – 8:00 AM
Where:  Mt. Baldy Notch to Icehouse Canyon/Cucamonga Wilderness
Classification:  9 Miles or 6 Miles RT - 1200’ Elevation Gain (see below)
Difficulty:  Moderate-Strenuous (due to high elevation 8000’ – 9000’)
Leader: Michael Bourke
Co-Leader:  Tim Stirton

I am leading this hike for both the Gay Outdoors and the Great Outdoors members.  Note: women may be participating.

This is one of the most spectacular hikes you will ever take in the San Gabriel Mountains; the views are never ending. Take the ski lift to Baldy Notch where we will gather from 8:00 – 8:45 at the café for coffee, hot chocolate or even breakfast if you like. This is our meeting place for the hike. Then we’ll head out for the first “T” Thunder Mtn. The climax of the hike will surely be “T” number two, Telegraph Peak just short of 9000’. There we will have a leisurely lunch and appreciate the scene before us.

We are offering two options for this hike. Hikers will be divided into “slow” and “fast” groups. After lunch the slow group will return the way we came and the ski lift down. Alternatively you can hike down from top of the lift at 3 miles more, 1300’ loss. The fast hikers will continue to Timber Mtn., Icehouse Saddle /Canyon and finally the Icehouse parking lot. As your cars will be 3 miles away at the ski lift parking, the trip organizers will provide a car shuttle service at a designated time. Plan on spending the day, finishing up at about 4:00 pm.
