About this event

My January hike to the summit of Mt. Monadnock on a zero degree day in January was breathtaking.  There was excellent snow cover, beautiful ice flows and an incredible blue sky.  If you've hiked Monadnock in the summer, it's a new landscape in the winter and remains as popular now as in July.

February's weather didn't cooperate, but March will.  Join me for another exciting and challenging hike.  The mountain has an elevation of 3,165 feet and offers outstanding views on the clearest of New England days.  From the peak you can see as far as Mt. Greylock, to Mt. Killington to faint skyline views of Boston, MA.

Monadnock can be described as a moderate to strenuous hike.  Conditions are likely to be snow covered trails.  We will hike up white dot trail and hike down white cross trail.  Rain or snow cancels the trip. We will only hike under a bright & clear forecast.

Come prepared, plenty of water, snacks and layered clothing – NO COTTON.

Anticipate cold temps at the summit, especialy strong winds. Descending in winter conditions is harder than climbing. You should have proper footwear with traction for ice and snow conditions. You can check the Monadnock website to evaluate trail conditions and I’ve included a link to hiking safe – it is everyone’s responsibility!

We will meet at the trail head at 10am sharp!!  We'll climb at a healthy group pace – take in the views – and descend in similar fashion.  This event is cross posted at www.chiltern.org.

We will meet at visitor center at 116 Poole Road, Jaffrey, NH 03452.  Monadnock State Park day use fee: $5 per person (fees based on the Monadnock website).
