About this event

About Mount Airy:

Mount Airy Forest was established in 1911 and covers 1,400+ acres. In the 19th century the land was deforested and ultimately left barren do to erosion and poor land management. In the early 20th century the first urban reforestation plan was started at Mount Airy and today there are numerous improvements which include hiking trails, bridle paths, walls, gardens, bridges and a treehouse. Many of the early structures built in the 1930’s are still standing today. Thanks to improvements made over time, the forest now boasts over 700 acres of reforested hardwoods, 200 acres of evergreens, 269 acres of wetlands, 170 acres of beautiful meadows and an arboretum. The park was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
