The trip report
On only a few days every year are the skies sufficiently clear to allow the hiker to enjoy Divide Peak's claim to fame: being the one place in the coast ranges from which you can see all eight of the Channel Islands. But thanks to the Santa Ana winds blowing the coast free of clouds and smog, today was exactly such a day. After a challenging uphill climb, we savored our lunch with our hard-won island views. Definitely a day on the trail to remember.

About this event
Let’s enjoy late fall’s clear air and cooler temps with an invigorating all-day hike exploring some of the most scenic terrain in southern California. We’ll hike uphill along a clear, well-graded trail and fire road before making a hard, brushy scramble to the summit, where we’ll (hopefully) enjoy awesome views over the Santa Barbara coastline extending all the way out to all eight of the Channel Islands.
At nearly 12 miles round trip and with nearly 3000’ of elevation gain, including a fairly hairy rock scramble to the summit, this hike will be strenuous and is suitable only for experienced hikers in very good condition. We will cheerfully face the possibility of mud, ticks, bushwhacking and poison oak.
