Bicycling the Derry - Windham Rail Trail
Awesome day for a leisurely 16-mile bike ride.
The trip report
Peter and I joined 9 GO members on a beautiful autumn day along the newly-paved Derry-Windham rail trail, 8 miles in each direction. The trail was busy but not too much. Afterwards we enjoyed a snack at Rig-a-Tony's in downtown Derry, a very fine pizzeria, sandwich, and dessert shop!

About this event
If you have been waiting for someone to post an EZ bicycling event your wait is finally over! Please join me in a leisurely 2 to 3 hour afternoon bicycle ride along the 8 mile Derry - Windham rail trail. This old Manchester to Lawrence railroad has been re-invented as a predominantly paved cycling / walking / running path.
We will begin our trek in the heart of downtown Derry NH easily accessed from exit 4 off I-93. We will meet at the municipal parking lot on Manning Street. Our ride will originate behind Sabatino's Italian restaurant on East Broadway Street. Detailed directions will be sent to all registered participants just prior to the event.
The rail trail is 3/4 paved with the exception of the last mile before reaching Windham. Our round trip from Derry to Windham and back will be approximately 16 miles. Actual mileage to be determined by the group. This event is geared towards the beginner to intermediate cyclist. The trek is not a race. The goal is to have some relaxing FUN!
We have the option of socializing at a local eaterie after the ride. Bring plenty of H20 and snacks. There are benches scattered along the trail for hydration breaks.
Rain cancels the event.

Comments
The weather forecast for tomorrow calls for sunshine and a comfortable temperature in the low 70s. Perfect for cycling. Please plan to meet at the municipal parking immediately next door to Sabatino's Italian Restaurant on E. Broadway Street in downtown Derry for 1 PM.
