About this event
Get Fit Hikes are back for 2013. Dave & Rick will be hosting a series of hikes for beginners and end with a hike to summit an easy 4K footer in the White Mountains. This series is ideal for those of you who are new to hiking or would like to get into shape for more difficult hikes. Up first is an easy hike on a trail which was originally a railroad track to a great swimming hole. Long considered one of the best swimming spots in America, Franconia Falls is a 7 mile round-trip hike or bike through a piece of New Hampshire history. Franconia Brook Falls is a wonderful swimming hole secluded over three miles in from the trail head. What makes it even better is the wild experience of going over the falls. A naturally formed flume allows the swimmer to put themselves in a channel that's about 10 feet long and then takes you over the falls (about 8 feet high), landing in the pool below. The trip starts off by crossing the East Branch of the Pemigewasset River via a 160-foot long suspension bridge. Then we pick up the Lincoln Woods trail, which follows the route of the old Lincoln Railroad. This trail takes us right up to Franconia Brook Falls. The hike is a total of 6.5 miles round trip and mostly flat. Pack a lunch/snacks and plenty of water (2 liters recommended), insect repellent, sunscreen, and a swimsuit.

Looking forward to seeing you on the hike Saturday. The weather report looks like 77C with chance of showers in the AM. To make it easy, we can all meet at the Rangers cabin in the parking lot. If you can't make this hike, please remove yourself so we aren't waiting. If you need to contact me, my cell# is 603-341-4639. See you Saturday
Rick
