Cascade Canyon & Solitude Lake
A spell-binding walk up spectacular Cascade Canyon
The trip report
What was the highlight of this trip? It's hard to pick between the spectacular scenery and the just-as-spectacular wildlife. On one hand was the dramatic deep canyon and its rushing river. On the other hand, we were treated to close encounters with first pikas and marmots and then an enormous moose and elk! It all made for a lovely, full day in the Tetons.

About this event
Cascade Canyon affords otherworldly, close-up views of the Tetons, rewarding tough hikers with an intimate encounter with a heavenly landscape – the rugged backbone of the American West - as well as a good chance of spotting moose and bears along the trail.
At nearly 15 miles round trip and over 2,200 feet of elevation gain at high altitude, this hike will be STRENUOUS and is suitable only for experienced hikers in very good condition. Weather can change rapidly on a summer afternoon in Grand Teton, so dress in layers and be prepared for a wide range of weather conditions, including heat, wind and rain. Bring the ten essentials, lunch, and at least 3/4 gallon of water.
Our hike will take us about eight hours to complete, so plan on a full, exhausting day. Optional refreshment in Jackson afterwards. Rain or chance of rain or thunderstorms 48 hours before the hike cancels or re-routes the hike at the leader’s discretion, as does fewer than four signups as of 8pm, Wednesday, August 1.
