Summary: The Appalachian Trail presents a moderate climb as it ascends North Marshall (3368 ft) and South Marshall (3212 ft). Cliffs on North Marshall and lookout points on South Marshall offer views of surrounding peaks and valleys. A hut at Gravel Springs provides a good picnic spot. (Day use only except backpackers with permits). The Bluff Trail is nearly level and passes through a splendid stand of forest. A side trip to Big Devil Stairs adds about one mile and is worth the effort.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

1) This is not a beginners hike. This is not for people who do not exercise regularly, who are our of shape, who have injuries that may be aggravated on long hikes. Please be considerate of the fact that we are only as fast as the slowest person.

2) We will hike at a fast/moderate pace. If you like to stop every mile, this is not for you.

3) Bring at least 2L of water, intelligent shoes. Rain poncho, extra layers (3000 feet higher than DC), food to eat, basic first aid.

4) If you have a super dog, ask me. Nobody wants to carry your poodle down a mountain.

5) If you are carpooling, please pitch in for gas.

6) Please email me  with any questions.
