About this event
We'll start our 4.2 mile hike along an old rail bed along the Shepaug River before turning uphill until reaching the Clam Shell, a lovely overlook of the valley and hills beyond (and we'll likely see howks riding the air currents where we'll have our picnic, close enough you'll feel you can touch them - but don't reach out - it's a long drop down if you miss!). After lunch we'll hike down, cross the river and walk through the old rail tunnel, before our final stretch back to our starting point.

If time, energy, and our desire are there we'll do a second 1.0 mile easy/moderate hike to The Pinnacle on a nearby preserve - here lovely views over ther rolling hills of Litchfield County. More info: http://steeprockassoc.org/pdf/map_hidden_valley.pdf
Finally, for those who wish, we'll end our outing with wine/beer/soft drinks/cheese - or more if we're so inclined - at the Washington Depot home of the organizer of this outing.
Dogs welcome on hike and at home of the organizer.
