About this event
If you have ever wanted to safely paddle out to an ocean island, to explore the coast of Maine (e.g. paddle along the Marginal Way to Perkins Cove), and/or to go beyond protected inlets, then come practice the basics by taking advantage of the incoming tide at the mouth of the Ogunquit river and up behind the gay beach.
This trip is testing the interest waters with a: Let's Get Wet Kayaking Safety Workshop. No dogma here except that you must have (and be willing to use) a spray skirt and be willing to do a wet exit with a spray skirt fastened. The trip focuses upon just becoming aware of stuff that is routine for kayak touring. If there is interest in this trip, we will do/practice: wearing a spray skirt, a "wet exit", recovering from a tip-over with and without leaving your kayak or a roll, handling current, boat fit to hips-knees-legs, turning without a paddle or rudder, skeg vs. rudder vs. nothing?, launching and landing in surf ?, and other necessities for kayak touring along the coast.
The water will be around 60 degrees F so bring synthetic (no cotton!) clothing such as capaline for warmth while in the water etc. Plenty of time to eat supper afterwards
