About this event
April 5, 2011 - !
We will be running the section of the river from Waregan (town of Killingly) to Butts Bridge (town of Canterbury). It will be about a 4 hour paddle. As of this evening the river is running fairly fast and just slightly high. The water is COLD, about 40-41 degrees.
We will be meeting right at the put-in point on Route 205 in West Wauregan, CT, which is a village within Killingly, CT. If you use Google Maps and put in "Route 205, West Wauregan, CT" it will get you with in 100 yards of the put in. Or using a GPS use the intersection of Route 12 and Route 205 and the zip code 06387. Then go about 1/3 mile west on 205 to the river.
?Please arrive early enough to prep yourself and help with shuttling cars, I would like to start paddling right at 11:00 AM. I will be at the put in by 10:30 AM at the latest and will have a map showing how to get to the take out parking area. I will be wearing a Hi-Vis yellow jacket and that can be seen at 1000 yards...

This is a leasurly kayak/canoe trip. The water level should be slightly high making the paddle easy, especially if we get the predicted rain next week. It's a great first trip of the season. The exact section of the river to be kayaked with be determined on Wed. April 6th and I will this listing at that time with the meeting place. We will be meeting in or near Plainfield, CT but until I can verify the water level I can't specify the section we are running.
While we will not be doing any whte water, the water will be COLD so life vests are required. This does not mean you need to be an expert, just have a healthy respect for cold water and you will do fine. The length of the trip will be between 6 and 12 miles, again depending on the exact section we run. You can figure it will be 3-4.5 hours long.
This is a prime opportunity to run a portion of the river that is usually too low during the warmer months. If the rain doesn't pan out we will be running a section that has plenty of water.
Rain on the day of the trip will cancel the trip.
