About this event
Come spend a beautiful spring weekend camping by Silverwood Lake, highlighted by an invigorating hike to Deep Creek Hot Springs.
I have reserved a group campsite at the Silverwood Lake campground in the San Bernardino Mountains. This is a great weekend getaway trip, just an hour away from Los Angeles. The campsite is nestled among a grove of oaks and manzanita trees with a small stream rippling nearby.
The main hike will be to Deep Creek Hot Springs. A moderately strenuous two mile hike will lead us to these magnificent pools in their completely natural surroundings. Relax in one of the largest pools or be naturally massaged beneath a hot waterfall. What make this place so unique is the cool refreshing river that flows right up against the hot springs. You can actually jump into the river from the outer edge of the large pools. Totally awesome! (Note: be advised that you may encounter people who enjoy the springs "au natural".)
Itinerary:
Friday - Arrive any time after 2 pm. Dinner on your own followed by campfire games.
Saturday - Deep Creek hike carpool leaves at 8 am for 25 mile drive to trailhead. Potluck dinner at camp, followed by campfire.
Sunday - Break camp by noon.
Our campsite has hot showers, flush toilets, wash sinks, built-in barbeques, shaded tables, and a bonfire pit. Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash six feet or less.
Bring your own camping equipment and food, including a dish to share at the potluck. Please also bring two bundles of wood for the campfire. For those going on the Deep Creek hike, wear sturdy shoes, bring sun protection, and bring packable containers to carry at least three quarts of water for the day. We may have to wade across the river to get to the hot springs, so bring a pair of river sandals.
Temperatures generally average highs in the 70s and lows in the 40s for late April. Come prepared by bringing layers of clothing and a warm sleeping bag.
Cost: $55 per person. Payment and liability waiver will be required from all attendees in advance since I may cancel if not enough people are fully committed.
