About this event
Most people think of visiting Jamaica Plain's Arnold Arboretum in the spring when the flowers are in full bloom, or Fall when the color is spectacular. Winter, however, showcases the Arboretum in other spectacular, and less crowded ways. We will snowshoe from the main entrance all the way to Peter's Hill and back, for a total of 3 to 4 miles round trip. Along the way, we will go by the conifer section, where 100 year old spruces will make you forget you are in the city of Boston (see photo from artist Erik Gehring at right). Please note that although this is not great mileage, that we've had a great deal of snow here in Boston, and that the deep snow will make it tough going in some areas. Also, there is another snowstorm predicted for Saturday, which should make the hike even more interesting. After the hike, we will head over to James's Gate Pub, where hearty pub food, and a crackling fire will warm us up quickly.
