D 10/18/2010>>>>> NEW INFORMATION >>> NEW INFO !! !! !!!
- Friends.
I've gotten lots of emails from folks. It looks like we are going to have a fun crowd for the weekend..
Rumor has it the Fall colors will be ideal this coming weekend.
Just a few points I want to go over.
Contact:
My Cell phone number is 704.900.1615. I have NO idea if there is cell service on the mountain. So any communication you have to me needs to occur prior to Friday Noon.
FOOD AND MEALS
Upon recommendation, I will bring some Basic Food to share. All i ask is that you tell me you want to participate and contribute toward the kitty to help defray my food bill costs.I'll let you know, but i'm thinking like $10/person.give me an idea if you want to participate so i can gauge how much to purchase. Also please bring you own stuff to supplement!! :)
- Friday Night I'll bring up some light finger foods and pick sides.
- Saturday AM I'll have muffins / Coffee / Juice.
- Saturday Lunch - bring money for the sandwich shops mid way down the trail. otherwise, you are on your own.
- Saturday Night - I'll have Chicken Breast, and some type of side dish. and some type of Carb for dessert.
- Beverages:
- I will pick up juice for the B-fast and bottled water. If you would like anything else, please bring your beverage (adult or otherwise)
- Own Tastes?
- If you want to bring your own protein/ sides, etc - BY ALL means and what ever you want to contribute to the mix would be most appreciated. i'm trying to keep this simple. So bring and Share!!
Sunday B-fast, we'll be packing up so i figure we'll scavange whatever is left over from the previous days.
Dress-
- the elevation of the campground is 3800'. So it will be a "tad chilly" at night. be sure you have sufficient equipment to stay warm. Remember safety and if you have heaters, make sure they are approved for "inside tent". We don't have to have any CO fatalities!!
- Also, Remember to Layer your clothing. It will be chilly in the AM but as we ride, the weather should warm up. so bring some type of back back when you ride to house your layers as you warm up!!
Daily Logistics:
Campers: if you have not already done so, please call the campground (unless your intention is not to camp for the weekend)
Some have expressed interest in sharing campsite. Most have already reached out to other individuals to share but if you have not, please "email all" from the GO event site and find a buddy.
Arrival.
- Eric from Richmond is arriving on Thursday evening so he will be there first.
- I will arrive on Friday afternoon shortly after lunch time. I am driving a BLACK JEEP Wrangler 4 door w/ a utility trailer attached.
Saturday AM.
- I will take my Jeep w/ utility trailer down the mountain before we start and find a suitable parking spot to shuttle us back up. My Jeep can hold 5. (maybe 6 if you squeeze in the back!). I'll need assistance getting back up the hill to start.
- We will be on the trail by 10AM to start down the mountain.
Bring
- CASH to buy your lunch midway down. Not sure if those sandwich shops take VISA.
- Water for the bike trip
- power bars, etc
- Bike helmet
- Camera, lots of photo ops.
completion.
- the 17 mile downhill journey should take 3 hours. we should be completed by 1-2 PM.
- Some crazy folks have indicated that they want to ride back up the other direction. All i have to say is "more power to you!!"
- After the trip, we can take an ad-hoc poll, if we want, we can putter around Damascus for a bit or get back in the cars back to the campground.
Supper Saturday.
- I'll start the Grill about 6PM and we can get the dinner started plan to eat around 7 or so?
- I can be fluid on those times if we are hungry we can start earlier.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
