About this event
This hike is moderate in difficulty. We will hike approximately 10 miles and climb more than 1,500 feet in elevation from the base to the top of the ridge. So don't show up in flip flops.
The hike begins at the parking area on Taylor Road. There is a trail across a meadow, and upon entering the woods, the climb begins. We will follow the Jessup Trail and Long Path on the way up. The first 1/2 mile will present some of the steepest climbing, with a few shorter climbs and rock scrambles to follow afterward. Once at the top of the ridge, the trail flattens, and we will walk along the top of the ridge, with breathtaking views to the west and east, and a group of megaliths providing more visual interest. We will descend along the Sweet Clover trail.
Estimated hike time: 6 hours.
Since a balanced breakfast is important, I suggest we meet at the Bright Star Diner, located at 200 Route 32, Central Valley, NY at 8:00 AM. Look for me in the parking lot wearing red beard and a blue Mets cap. After a bite, we will continue to the trail head, approximately 6 miles away.
