About this event

Wissahickon Valley Park offers more than 50 miles of trails that range from flat to rugged.  It's part of Fairmount Park, one of the world's largest city parks.  Wissahickon Creek flows for seven miles through this wooded valley.  In addition to the natural splendor, the park offers statues, bridges, dams, and historic homes.  Some of these date back to the 1700s.

This weekly hike is coordinated by Philaventures, an outdoor club for the Philadelphia community.  I've been participating for years and this will be my first hike as leader.  Come join our friendly, talkative group as we hike through the beautiful Wissahickon Valley.

The group starts to gather in front of the Border's book store at 8701 Germantown Avenue at the intersection of Bethlehem Pike in Chestnut Hill around 1:45 PM.  Street parking is available and a parking lot can be found off Bethlehem Pike.  Public transit is also available; take the R7 or R8 lines to Chestnut Hill.  We depart Border's at 2:00 PM and return by 5:00 PM.

This hike offers several small hills and well maintained trails.  It's usually 3 to 4 miles, depending on the mood and ability of the group.  It's perfect for the occasional hiker.  You should be able to walk at a moderate pace without being winded.  Wear clothing appropriate for a fall hike.  Sturdy hiking shoes/boots are recommended but sneakers are fine.  Also bring along snacks and water, which can be purchased in the area.

After the hike, those interested finish the day with dinner in the Chestnut Hill area.
