About this event
OK, very last minute and a frequently done hike, but I haven't been on this summit this year and will be in the area for the weekend. What with a perfect weather forecast and great views, why not? Ascend via the Brook Trail 3.5 mi (3 hrs) to the summit; return 3.8 mi via Hammond & LIberty (2 1/2 hrs). Approximately 2500' elevation gain. Meet at the Liberty Trail parking area (parking fee) at the end of Paugus Mill Road (Chocorua Mountain Road according to GoogleMaps).
Directions: Route 16N (Spaulding Turnpike) to Route 25W at the traffic light in West Ossipee. Go west on 25 to Route 113N (Tamworth). From the west take Route 25E past Route 113 to Sandwich to a left onto the Route 113 for Tamworth. Take 113 into Tamworth village and continue straight ahead on Route 113A (the Chinook Trail). Turn right onto Fowlers Mill Road. Then turn left onto Paugus Road (a dirt road); there should be a sign indicating hiking trails for Mt Chocorua. Drive in to the end at the Liberty Trail trailhead. I'll be in a silver Focus wagon with CT plates. For anyone interested in carpooling, you can meet me in Center Ossipee no later than 9:15AM. Take Route 16 to Route 25E junction in Center Ossipee (exit for Effingham/Freedom/Portland ME). At end of exit turn onto 25E. Almost immediately you'll turn left onto Hodsdon Shore Road (opposite R&L Pizza), also with a NH DOT Highway Maintenance facility sign. Drive in a mile and where the road takes a sharp left continue straight into a driveway for our cottage (#70/CLARK - large yellow building + grey shingled buildings). Please let me know to expect you by leaving me a message @ 603-539-5647 or email @ jonathanclark102@gmail.com. Must depart promptly @ 9:30. Thanks.
