About this event

This is a nice mellow/low difficulty day hike in a beautiful area. If you're familiar with Montana De Oro State Park, you know just how beautiful it is! If not, here's your chance to check it out, you won't be disappointed!

The particulars:

1. Time and date are mentioned above

2. Directions: From either north or south Hwy 101, take the Los Osos Valley Road exit. Follow Los Osos Valley Road west, out of San Luis Obispo. Continue on through the valley, and on through Los Osos itself. The road eventually becomes Pecho Road. Continue following this road, it leads you right into the park. Continue forward through the park, the road eventually comes down to a large beautiful cove on your right, which is Spooner Cove. The road will continue up the hill out of the cove area. There will be a white house to your left among some trees, this is the Spooner Ranch House, which is now the visitors center for the park as well. A few more yards down the road on your right is the parking area for the Bluffs Trail. I will be there waiting, in my green Honda CRV.

3. I plan on us having lunch either along the trail or at the end, depending on how everyone feels and appetites, so bring along a sack lunch for yourself. Something to share is never a bad thing either, but don't load yourself down with too much to carry... Also include drinking water, potable water is NOT readily available throughout the park.

4. I would also recommend bringing some sunscreen or a hat or both, comfortable shoes for the walking, and a sweatshirt or light jacket just in case the fog sticks around to cool down our day.

I think that covers all the bases. This hike is a great excuse to get out and enjoy some fresh air, and also a great introduction to the park for people who've never been there. There are many other trails in the park, several more challenging than this one for folks that are up for the challenge, so come check it out!
