The trip report

Solo hiking trip to the old fire tower on Round Mountain in the North Maine Woods.

This trip almost did not happen, as I got stuck in the snow on the road leading to the trail.  After getting unstuck, I parked and walked to the trail.

Had to walk the road for almost 3.5 miles.  The road walk was fairly easy as I was able to walk in the tire tracks of vehicles that had been there before me.  There were no vehicle tracks for about the last 1/4-mile.

The trail up Round Mountain is about 3/4 mile, going up around 850 ft.  It took almost 1 hour to go up the trail!  It took 2.5 hours to get from my parking spot to the fire tower.

Snow was up to my knees going up the mountain, but was soft and easy to walk through.

I climbed the 48-foot fire tower to take in the views.   It was very windy, so didn't hang out there very long.

The weather was nice, temps in the low 30's.

Total miles hiked were almost 8.5 miles, and took 4.75 hours.

There are plenty of places to hike in northern Maine.  You just need to find them!!!!
