Calumet Lookout Hike

Easy Hike @ Camp Calumet

Calumet Lookout Hike

Easy Hike @ Camp Calumet

Details

Apologies for the late posting.  I thought it might be fun to add this walk/hike event even though it's quite short and easy.  For those who enjoy getting out in the woods without exerting a lot of effort and/or going very far, this'll be perfect.  We walk/hike in on the Outer Limits Trail for about .75 of a mile to the Jackson Ridge Trail.  In .30 miles we reach a rock outcrop which provides a beautiful view south over Ossipee Lake and a wonderful spot to rest, relax and enjoy lunch.  We'll return on the Snowmobile Trail (a disused forest access road) back to the parking area in another .75 miles.  You shouldn't even break a sweat.  My 3 weekend guests (female non-members) will be joining me on this walk/hike; we'll be glad to have your company.

Directions

Parking area is accessed at 1090 Ossipee Lake Road, Freedom NH.  Drive in and follow the road to the left and then all the way back (through 1 stop sign) to a large parking area which may also have quite a few camping trailers in residence.  Park wherever you can find a spot and meet at the trailhead on the left side of the parking lot.  PLEASE LOOK AT THE GOOGLE MAPS SATELITTE VIEW BEFORE YOU SET OUT ON YOUR DRIVE.  The proper access road is NOT identified by name but is the one just WEST of Lakeside Drive.  There should be a sign indicating the Calumet Conference Center, as well.  As you can see from the aerial view, Lakeside Drive does NOT go to the back parking lot; only the other road takes you all the way back.  The aerial view also shows VERY CLEARLY the large back parking lot and where the trail takes off on the left side.
