Bridal Veil Falls Hike

Hike to Bridal Veil Falls with a side trip for some Bette Davis history

Details

We will be doing a round trip to Bridal Veil Falls on the Coppermine Trail for a total of five miles (2.5 each way).  The trail used to be a logging/mining road and is a fairly well graded and moderate ascent.  However, although it is generally a fairly easy hike, it does involve a bit over 1,000 foot ascent to the falls.  There is quite a treat on this hike for Bette Davis aficionados, as we hike by a plaque that she placed on a partially hidden rock at the river's edge, in memory of her first husband Arthur Farnsworth.  Come prepared to chat that one up, as there are a number of alternative versions on his death, and some of them do not make our famous film start look good.  Bring some snacks and water for this hike.  If there is consensus, we may stop at any of the fine eateries in the vicinity.  Rain will cance.

Directions

The trailhead parking is on Coppermine Road which is only open to the public up to the parking area, where the trail begins.  The road is off the east side of NH route 116, approximately 3.4 miles south of NH route 18 in Franconia, and 1 mile south of the Franconia Airport.  Let me know if you'd like to carpool from Plymouth, NH, where I'm staying.

If people are interested, my house is about 3 miles from the trailhead, so we could have beers on the deck and a swim in our pond after the hike.

Sounds like a good idea to me, John. We can all decide better when we are all together on Sunday.

That would be cool John thank you. Haven't seen your place yet. Yes let's talk on Sunday
