Ski Shelter Trail: easy relaxing hike
Ski Shelter Trail hike
Details
I'm going to Camden to check out the Ski Shelter I rented for New Years Eve (separate Meetup). If you are interested in joining me for a lovely, easy hike on Dec 6th, sign up! It is a beautiful 2 mile hike to the shelter and from there we are free to continue hiking any trail that the group might be interested in, or simply meet downtown Camden afterwards for coffee, hot chocolate or a bite to eat. Doggies in ugly winter sweaters welcome!
Ski Shelter / Multi-use Trail
(5 miles, moderate): Trail runs from Camden Hills campground to ME Route 173, its well graveled and graded surface accommodates all user groups. The trail follows an easy contour at the base of Megunticook through mixed forest and nearby bogs where birds and wildlife abound. At midpoint, users will find a recently completed replica of a ski lodge constructed some 70 years ago. The Multi-use Trail also provides access to several trails in the northern section of the park. During the winter this trail is packed for cross country skiing from the main entrance of the park to the Ski Shelter.
For your comfort and SAFETY: dress in layers, no cotton. Microspikes to avoid slips/falls. Bring snowshoes in case there is deep snow or recent snowfall.
Directions
Directions: Rt 1 north to Camden, go through the town and continue on Rt 1/S.High St, it will become Rt 1/Belfast Rd. You will travel about 1.8 miles. The sign for Camden Hills State Park will be on the left. I will be wearing a red-orangy jacket and grayish pants, my car a red Toyota Corolla. Will aim to get there earlier
