Mount Isolation Hike
A Hike to Spectacular Mount Isolation via Glen Boulder and Rocky Branch Brook.
Details
Join me for this hike up to the secluded Mount Isolation at an elevation of 4003 feet. Mt. Isolation is part of the Montalban Ridge just south of the Presidential Range in a remote part of the Dry River Wilderness. We'll ascend via the Glen Boulder Trail with wonderful views across Pinkham Notch and the surrounding wilderness. We'll then hike the partly exposed ridge to Mount Isolation. Mount Isolation has spectacular views of Mount Washington and the southern Presidential Range. We'll return via the Isolation and Rocky Branch Trails.
Total Distance and Elevation Gain: 13.2 miles with approximately 3500 feet in cumulative elevation gain.
Total Time: 8-9 hours depending on breaks and group's speed.
Rain or harsh weather may postpone to another date or cancel, as appropriate.
What to Bring: Typical spring hiking gear should be appropriate: convertible hiking pants or shorts, good sturdy hiking boots with thick socks, a fleece/windbreaker/raingear. Also bring along lunch, snacks and plenty of water (at least 2-L). Optionally, pack sunscreen, bug spray, and anything else that you may require for a day hike.
Carpooling: Contact other participants or the trip leader to arrange for a rideshare to the trailhead.
Afterwards: If there is sufficient interest, we will have drinks and/or dinner in the area (Red Fox Pub in Jackson, NH is always a great place).
Directions
FROM GLEN...At the junction of Routes 16 and 302, travel north of Route 16 for 7.7 miles. The trailhead will be on the left.
FROM GORHAM...At the junction of Routes 16 and 2, travel south on Route 16 for 14.7 miles. The trailhead will be on the right.
Look for a gray Hyundai Elantra. Once we've gotten together we'll carpool to the Glen Ellis Parking Area.
For GPS Users: Rocky Branch Trailhead; Route 16; Jackson, NH (44.203649, -71.239262)
