This is my 16th year of running a hike for a land trust (Kestrel Land Trust this year) on new years day.  Its open to anyone and everyone so I thought I'd post it here too.  Its an easy 2 hour hike into the Fitzgerald Lake Conservation Area here in Florence.  Beautiful scenery and fresh air to start the new year.  A lot of people come to the hike so if you want quiet serentity, this probably isn't the hike for you but if you like meeting new people and exploring a new area, come on along!  Its easy to turn around or go your own way if you want to.  Heavy rain cancels but  the weather looks good so far.  Happy New Year!

From the south, take 91 to the second Northampton exit (exit 19) Go through the intersection onto Damen Road. Keep on that road, pass through King Street lights and up the hill to another set of lights. Damen Road turns into Bridge Road.  Keep going until you get to the lights in Florence, the crossroad is Maple Street.  Make a right at the lights, the Conservation Area is about a quarter mile down the road.

From the North, take 91 to the Northampton exit (21), After you come off the exit onto King Street, make your first right at the lights onto Damen Road. Keep on that road and up the hill to another set of lights. Damen Road turns into Bridge Road.  Keep going until you get to the lights in Florence, the crossroad is Maple Street.  Make a right at the lights, the Conservation Area is about a quarter mile down the road.
