Tuckerman Ravine HIke

We'll be hiking into Tuckerman's to watch those crazy skiers/riders do suicidal runs down the face of the Ravine!

Details

Come join us. Bring “lunch” for a group hike into the Ravine. We'll park ourselves at Lunch Rocks midway into the Ravine to party and watch the skiers/riders do their thing!

The hike is routine up the very wide Tuckerman's Ravine Trail. We'll go beyond Hermit Lake Shelter on up to the Lunch Rocks where we can get the best views of skiers/riders. Bring your sun screen & sunglasses, insulated sitting pad, beer/wine, binoculars, and your lunch to enjoy some entertaining action. We plan on spending a leisurely lunch of one hour in the bowl.

We'll meet at the Pinkham Notch AMC camp on the porch [I'll be wearing a GO hat] at the base of the mountain and proceed to the Ravine. Give yourself extra time because you'll have to park far away and walk a good distance to meet us at 10AM. Get there at 9:30AM to find parking and walk to the porch.

Distance: 6.5 miles
Elevation Gain: 2300 feet
Estimated Time: 6 Hours

Come join us for a non-technical hike, but if you are brave, bring your skis/snowboard as well!!!

Carpooling: Contact other members to carpool, share the conversation and travel expenses. Contact us if you want to carpool with us from Exit 28.

After The Hike: We'll have an early dinner at the Red Fox Grill in Jackson, NH. You may want to change into clean clothes when you return back to your car to be more comfortable for dinner.

Lodging Option: We have 8 bunks available at our house near Waterville Valley, NH for Friday and/or Saturday night. It’s $25 for each night. Coffee/bagels each morning and linen/blankets/towels are provided. We have limited space in the fridge to store your beverages/food so it's best to bring a small cooler. Space is limited so email us ASAP to reserve a bunk!

Directions

Tuckerman Ravine Trail starts at the Trading Post at Pinkham Notch Visitor Center in Pinkham's Grant, NH. The Visitor Center is located on Rt. 16, about 20 miles north of Conway and 11 miles south of Gorham.

Hi Mike and Jon , i have a stupid question possibly but better to ask than not! : Matthew and i (mazzolina) recently bought new hiking boots b/c we have been doing lots of hiking around here (Peterborough , NH). But it just dawned on me that there may be snow on this hike? Are we going to need snow boots?? Since he is from Florida and i have been going there for the past 6 winters we don't own boots! haha! Thoughts/suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Mike & Jon,
Considering that the Winter that never came, ever is to go away, should we bring snow shoes ? Wish I were in Florida. . .;-)
PS I like Robert's new picture. Luciano

Winter boots and snowshoes are not needed. However traction for your boots is probably a good idea. Here is the latest trail conditions report:
"Trails below Hermit Lake are exposed rock, and some ice; MicroSpikes are helpful. Trails above Hermit Lake are exposed rocks and ice, so MicroSpikes are recommended."

Brad, I've been sending you emails but you are not getting them! Geez. Please check your SPAM folder. In the past, hotmail.com has blocked emails/correspondence from withing the GO site so I recommend changing your email address at the site to something other hotmail.com.
