The Topa Trio

A rite of passage for SoCal hikers, these three peaks afford Baldy-to-Channel Islands views.

Details

Topa Topa Bluff, Creampuff and Hines Peak are the three kings of the Topa Topa Mountains, topping out at 6,716’. Starting our hike amid the fragrant orange and avocado orchards of the upper Ojai Valley, we’ll wind our way up a mostly clear, well-graded fire road to the three summits, where we’ll enjoy awesome views spanning from the Channel Islands to Mt. Baldy.

This is a challenging hike anytime, but especially during winter’s short days.  At nearly 20 miles round trip and with over one vertical mile of elevation gain, including a hairy Class 2-3 rock scramble to each of the summits, this hike will be very strenuous and is suitable only for experienced hikers in excellent condition.  If you are still lugging around extra holiday pounds, this is probably not the hike for you.  We will cheerfully face the possibility of mud, ticks and snow.

Our hike will begin around 8am and take us about ten hours to complete, so plan on a full day and an evening return home.  Rain or chance of rain 48 hours before start cancels, as does fewer than four signups as of 8pm, Thursday, February 4.

Directions

Hikers originating in L.A. should plan on leaving no later than 6am to meet the coordinator at the halfway carpool point in Camarillo (Camarillo Park-and-Ride at US101 x Pleasant Valley Road) at 7am SHARP!
