We'll hike from parking in or near the town up the Appalachian Trail to the Loudoun Heights trail. We'll the proceed along the ridge to an overlook with a great view of the town and the junction of the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers. The hike is 8.5 miles with an 1850 ft elevation change. the expected time on the trail is 5 hrs. Bring water and a lunch. From Frederick MD-Take US340 south in the direction of Harpers Ferry. The meeting place is the Exxon station shortly after crossing the bridge over the Potomac.

From Leesburg, VA-Take VA7 west to VA9 west (~2 miles). drive 9.8 miles to State route 671/Harpers Ferry Rd. Drive 7.5 miles to the intersection with US340. The meeting place is the Exxon station to the left at the intersection.
