Solstice Canyon Day Hike

Easy Solstice Canyon Day Hike

Solstice Canyon Day Hike

Easy Solstice Canyon Day Hike

Details

Scenic Solstice Canyon boasts a variety of pleasures. Steep hillsides matted with dense chaparral slope toward a narrow stream bed. Here, towering sycamores and alders provide a heaven for birds, including the elusive Nuttal's woodpecker.

Along the trail are relics of human habitation in the canyon. We'll pass the charred remains of the area's first stone house built in 1865. Our destination is Tropical Terrace... the crumblind walls and foundation of a home designed in 1952 by the pioneering African-American architect, Paul Williams. A small brook gurgels beside the ruins.

Pack water/sunscreen/snacks. Rain cancels.

Directions

From the PCH (Pacfic Coast Hwy 1) turn inland on Corral Canyon Rd. The park entrance is on the left, just beyond the first bend. The lot fills quickly and there is a fee for parking (State Park passes accepted).

There are restrooms at the trailhead.

Since it's supposed to rain on Saturday, are there any plans to reschedule?

Considering the muddy trails and 100% chance of rain tomorrow morning, are there any plans to reschedule?
