A day skiing adventure at Keystone Resort
Details
Event Details
This is day skiing event at Keystone Resort, Keystone CO. for skiers of intermediate to advanced ability. Taking advantage of great early season snow, skiing will most likely be mostly on Dercum Mountain.
Keystone Resort:
For the last 10 years I have been skiing the Colorado Pass at all of the Vail resorts and Keystone is my personal favorite. The resort has somehow managed to keep a lot of the flavor and intention of the founders Max and Edna Dercum's original vision providing something of a down home flavor while providing the skiing experience of a large mountain resort. The trail design and grooming on Dercum Mountain is arguably the some of the best in the west, consistently providing excellent snow conditions and skiing terrain. North Mountain and the Outback offer excellent advanced terrain and back country tree and bowl skiing.
Trip Organizer:
I grew up skiing in New England and I have been working and skiing at major resorts west of Denver since 1973. Now that I am retired from the ski industry I am skiing just for the fun of it an loving it more than ever. I love to share my passion for skiing and the mountains with others.
Details
Participants will be responsible for their lift tickets, ski equipment and meal expenses and should be prepared for spending a day on the mountain in the existing weather conditions on the day of the event.
For those unable to make the arranged start time, contact me by email and I will give you a cell number to call so that we can meet up on the mountain.
Tickets
While lift tickets are available at the Gondola base, the best prices can be had by purchasing online in advance. Current ticket prices are available online at: Keystone Tickets
Skiing
Where we ski will be a group decision, but the general plan is that we will be skiing the entire resort starting out on the Dercum Mountain frontside trails for warmup and acclimatization and moving towards North mountain and the Outback lifts as the day progresses (conditions permitting).
Comment
Historically, Keystone's early season conditions are usually the best of all of the Summit County resorts so chances are good for a great early season ski outing.
Directions
From I-70 Take exit 205 for US-6 E/CO-9 N toward Silverthorne/Dillon.
Head South on US-6 E/Grand Army of the Republic Hwy towards Keystone
Drive 7.6 miles turn right onto Keystone Rd
Take immediate left on Gondola Rd.
Park in parking lot on the right at the east end.
Access to River Run Gondola is a short walk to the south through the River Run village.
Meeting Location
The group will meet at the bottom of the River Run gondola at 8:45 AM and we will be loading on the gondola at 9:00 AM. I will be wearing the ski outfit pictured on my profile. Participants should be geared up and ready to ski.
