Tsali Mountain Biking

Camping and Mountain Biking at Tsali Recreation Area in Nantahala National Forest, NC

Tsali Mountain Biking

Camping and Mountain Biking at Tsali Recreation Area in Nantahala National Forest, NC

Details

The Tsali (pronounced "Jah-lee") Mountain Biking Trails in the Nantahala National Forest in NC are a mecca for riders with four loops and connecters totaling over 40 miles. The area is located on a hilly peninsula reaching into pristine Fontana Lake, at the base of the Great Smoky Mountains. The rides on single track and old forest roads are through forests, along the lake shore, and provide some sweeping overlooks of the lake and mountains.

We will camp at the first-come, first-served Tsali campground at the trailhead and explore these trails. There are no nearby restaurants. Everyone is responsible for their own food and camping gear. Bring cash in small denominations for the pay kiosk at the campsite ($15/night) and for the daily trail fee ($2). Don’t forget a helmet.

Follow NC 28 north (a 4-lane highway) about 3 miles to the top of the hill and a sign for the Tsali Recreation Area; turn right. Follow the paved road to the campground and trailhead parking lot.

Look for my mocha Ford Ranger pick up with extended cab and GA tag in the campground.
