Mt. Liberty Hike
Hike to the summit of Mt. Liberty at the southern end of Franconia ridge
Details
We will hike up to the the summit of Mt. Liberty via the Liberty Springs Trail. This hike will start at the Flume Visitor's Center parking lot, down the Pemi paved bike path to the Liberty Springs Trailhead; and coming down the same way for a total mileage of 6.2. It is a moderately graded trail, and although there are rough rock strewn sections, there are no true steep sections until the very top. Most of the hike will be in the woods, but once we get up to the ridge, the views will open up, and the summit is an alpine zone with great views of both Franconia Notch and the Pemigewasset Wilderness. It might get chilly at the top, so bring good wind/rain gear for protection. Bring lunch and snacks for the summit, and of course, plenty of water to drink. Heavy steady rain will cancel. A sprinkle will not.
Directions
We will meet at the northern most parking lot for the Flume Visitor Center, as close as possible to where it meets the paved Pemi bike trail on the eastern side of I-93. Please note that we will not meet at the Whitehouse/Liberty Springs Trail parking lot, which is about 100 yards north of the Visitor's Center one. The Visitor Center is well marked on I-93, as it is the first exit inside the Franconia Notch State Park on the northbound lanes (or the last on the southbound lanes); just north of I-93's exit 33. I drive a silver Rav4 with Florida license plates.
