Cotton Valley Railtrail Ride

Cotton Valley Railtrail Bike Ride

Cotton Valley Railtrail Ride

Cotton Valley Railtrail Bike Ride

Details

Please join me for this leisurely, 14 mile ride (roundtrip) along the former Boston & Maine spur line from Wakefield to Wolfboro.  We will ride from Cotton Valley to Wolfboro (7 miles) where we will have lunch (bring your own or grab a sandwich in town) before returning to Cotton Valley, arriving back between 3 & 4PM.  The railtrail is NOT paved; while the riding surface is hard-packed, wider tires will definitely be preferable to narrow road tires.  I rode it with 1 1/4 inch tires and that was OK; anything wider would be even better.  This railtrail is unique in my experience in that the rails remain in place for the use of local railcar enthusiasts who operate their motorized put-puts on the line from time to time.

Directions

From Route 28 (northeast of Wolfboro and Lake Wentworth), take College Road east.  It turns into Cotton Valley Road and where it crosses the Cotton Valley Railtrail terminus there will be a parking area.
