Hike at Cedar Ridge Preserve

Hike Cedar Ridge Preserve

Details

Come join in for hiking the trails of Cedar Ridge preserve. Summer heat in Texas is a bear, but if you can get up and get to this place by 7:30AM there is still cool temps in the low 70's to low 80s' for enjoying hiking outdoors in North Texas, even in June.
Particiapants will meet at the picnic tables near the restrooms close to the trail head at 7:30. Drive in and find parking, and follow the path to the green grassy area where the tables are. We will wait until 7:45 or so. for people to gather. Traffic in Dallas is non-existant at that time Sunday morning so if you plan you can make it there without unexpected delays.

The plan would be to hike down to the Cattail Pond via Cattail Pond Trail (Green) and taking the Cedar Break and Fossile Valley loops (Blue) with a return on either Cattail Pond Trail or Escarpment Road(Teal). Escarpment road is a single track road/trail with a constant grade up and is faster and easier. return  We can still stop at the lookout tower if we take the short connecting leg from Escarpment Rd over to the CatTail Pond Tr.  The observation tower gives a scenic view of Joe Pool Lake and Cedar Hill areas, and a good photo opportunity.

See the map for details at: www.dallasparks.org/downloads/CedarRidgeMap.pdf
(Basically we will take the green trail to the end but be taking the two large blue loops to get there, then either coming back the green trail, or the Teal trail.  Sorry, the trail names faded upon uploading)

This is approximately a 2.5 Hr hike and we will be off the trail by 10 AM to beat the heat.  Hiking this time of day is amazingly popular in summer, so if you come in to a full parking area feel free to park off onto the grass on the road coming in. As always lock your car and hide any valuables. Be prepared to see wildflowers in bloom, birds, and maybe some wild critters and varmints.

Please don't be late for this as people who were on time will be waitingon those that RSVP and don't cancel.

Please wear hiking suitable footwear as there are small rocks on hardpack that can make for uncomfortable hking in sneakers, and you need good traction for the hilly sections for safety.  There are some steep hills here.

Car pooling is encoraged if you know someone attending or want to bring someone. Please makesure they sign up though so I have an accurate head count coming in.
