Mugu Peak Loop Hike

Mugu Peak Loop via La Jolla Valley

Details
This is a day hike and is co-lead with Great Outdoors Los Angeles Chapter. The roundtrip hike from the trailhead is roughly 5 miles. It's a gentle, but continuous climb. The modest summit... Mugu Peak... is 1,300 feet above sea level, and on a clear day, the view is dazzling. Bring water/snack/lunch/suncreen. We'll break for lunch at the top of Mugu Peak. Part of the hike is through a grassy field and we may encounter ticks.
Directions
The trailhead is just off the Pacific Coast Hwy (north of Malibu and just over the Ventura County line). From Los Angles, drive north on the PCH... pass the turn-off for Big Sycamore Canyon Campground. About 1.5 miles beyond Big Sycamore, look for a turn-off on the right (past the sand dunes) for La Jola Canyon/Ray Miller Trail. There is a lot; parking is $10. If you park on PCH, check the signs; if you park illegally, you will get a ticket. Invite a friend and carpool.
