Details

A vigorous nine-switchback climb to the 1,335-foot summit overlooking Brattleboro, Vermont, and the Connecticut River. The trail to the top of Wantastiquet Mountain is wide and easy to follow, but the steady uphill angle requires more effort than a casual stroll. Nine major switchbacks in the trail wind back and forth up the mountainside. A small clearing on a rocky ledge at the top opens up a wonderful, high-level vista. The Connecticut River, the cozy New England town of Brattleboro, Vermont, and the Green Mountains appear to the west. We found ourselves staring at the mesmerizing scene longer than we do at most trailside vistas.  It is about 4.5 miles and will take about 3 hours round trip.

Directions

From the center of  Brattleboro Vermont at the main intersection that has the Brattleboro Food Coop. take route 119 to hinsdale NH (next town over from Brattleboro).  Once you cross the state line and are past the bridge take your first left.  Take that road a very short distance to the end and park were ever you can find a spot.  If you get to the Wal-mart you have missed the road. If coming from the other direction you take a right after the Wal-Mart enterance. I will be in a black acura integra.  It is a dog friendly hike.

Hey James, thanks for proposing and organizing this trip. I live in Greenfield and am thinking of cycling to the trailhead, about 23 miles. Would anyone like to meet me here for the ride, departing at 9 AM or so. If carpooling back isn't possible, I could drive up the day before, leave the car, and cycle back.
