Franconia Ridge Hike

Hike Franconia Ridge on the "official" last weekend of summer.

Details

We will do the classic loop hike of Franconia ridge, going up the Falling Waters Trail, across the ridge and over Little Haystack, Lincoln, Lafayette, to Greenleaf Hut. From there we will head back down via the Bridle Path. The hike will be around 8 miles, with a fairly steep ascent on the Falling Waters Trail. The ridge is an open alpine zone which means it is exposed to the elements. Weather up there can be tricky, and chilly. So come prepared with good raingear, fleece, and hat. Bring lunch, snacks, and two liters of water. There is food and water available at the AMC hut, but note that this comes in the latter part of the hike. Steady rain or any type of persistent inclement weather will cancel this event.

Directions

We will meet at the trailhead for the Franconia ridge trails. This is easily accessible from I-93. Heading north on I-93, stay alert as the road narrows to one lane going north in Franconia Notch. Almost immediately as it narrows, you will see a big brown sign directing you to exit right for Trailhead Parking. Exit there and park anywhere. We will be waiting by the main sign at the trailhead. There is also parking on the west side of the Interstate at Lafayette Campground. If you are heading north, you will need to continue driving to the exit for Cannon Mtn, where you will crossover, and head back south towards the campground. You can easily cross over on foot to the meeting point on the east side, by walking under the highway in the pedestrian tunnel.
