Black Mountain Loop Hike

A modest loop hike over Black Mountain with its fire tower and views over Lake George.

Details
Join me for this 6.1 mile loop hike to Black Mountain. It is the highest peak in the Lake George area at an elevation of 2640 feet. There is a fire tower on its summit, but even if you don't wish to climb it, there are fantastic views in all directions from its mostly open rock summit. We'll ascend via the Black Mountain trail (No. 97) and return by way of the Black Mountain Pond and Lapland Pond trails (Nos. 99 & 98, respectively). There is approximatetly 1165 feet in elevation gain.
Features: This hike will feature the open summit, the summit fire tower, views over Lake George, and visits to the Black Mountain and Lapland Ponds.
Rain or harsh weather will postpone to another date or cancel, as appropriate.
What to Bring: Typical summer hiking gear should be appropriate: shorts or convertible hiking pants, good sturdy hiking boots with thick socks and a windbreaker/raingear. Also bring along lunch, snacks and plenty of water (at least 2-L). Optionally, pack bug repellent and sunscreen and anything else that you may require for a day hike.
Afterwards: If there is sufficient interest, we can swim in Lake George at Washington County Beech in Huletts Landing. Also, if there is interest, we will have drinks and/or dinner locally afterwards (probably in Whitehall).
Directions
Take NY 22 to Clemons (approximately 6.7 miles north of Whitehall or 17.6 miles south of Ticonderoga). At Clemons, drive 2.6 miles west toward Huletts Landing on County Road 6, and then bear south (left) on Pike Brook Road for 0.8 mile to the trailhead. Look for a grey Hyundai Elantra.
There may be a parking fee.
