Peaked Mountain Hike

A moderate hike along Thirteenth Lake on the way to the Peaked Mountain summit.

Details

Join me for this 6.8 mile out-and-back hike up to Peaked Mountain at an elevation of 2919 feet. Peaked Mountain dramatically rises above picturesque Peaked Mountain Pond with its east-facing shear cliff face. The views from its summit are spectacular with views northward to the High Peaks and into the surrounding wilderness. This hike is a modest hike of only 1220 feet of elevation gain; however, its last stretch is steep increasing 670 feet in 0.4 mile.

This outing features the hike along Thirteenth Lake, Peaked Mountain Pond(s) and to the open summit of Peaked Mountain. Afterwards we'll cool off with a swim in Thirteenth Lake.

Rain or harsh weather will postpone to another date or cancel, as appropriate.

What to Bring: Typical late spring/summer hiking gear should be appropriate: shorts or convertible hiking pants, good sturdy hiking boots with thick socks and a windbreaker/raingear. Also bring along lunch, snacks and plenty of water (at least 2-L). Optionally, pack bug repellent and sunscreen and anything else that you may require for a day hike. Bring a swim suit/towel, if you'd like to swim afterwards.

Afterwards: We should be completed with the hike by 3-4PM. If there is sufficient interest, we'll cap the day off with an early dinner/drinks in North Creek.

Directions

From North Creek take NY-28 north for 5.2 miles to North River. Turn onto Thirteenth Lake Road (near Adirondack Adventures) and follow this for 3.3 miles. Make a slight right onto Beach Road and continue to the end (0.6 miles). Look for a grey Hyundai Elantra.
