Macricostas Preserve Winter's End Hike

Late Winter hike at the Macricostas Preserve in New Preston, CT.

Details

This moderate hike will last about 2 1/2 hours and will take the Yellow trail up to Waramaug's Rock, the pinnacle overlooking Lake Waramaug. If there's snow on the ground, it will be a snowshoeing extravaganza. Otherwise, just bring good boots and perhaps some poles to give you balance.

Here's a link to more info on the preserve: http://steeprockassoc.org/pdf/map_macricostas.pdf

The Macricostas Preserve is part of the Steep Rock land Trust. The photo used here is from the warmer weather. Imagine the same view but without all the leaves.

Directions

We will meet at the trailhead which is at the parking lot by the Isaac Camp House. The address is 124 Christian Street, New Preston, CT 06777.

It's near the junction of route 202 and 47. The Isaac Camp House is an old red house and is visible from the road.

Hello Everyone. The hike is going through tomorrow. All the forecasts indicate that the rain will end about the time the hike begins. If it's pouring we can all stop for coffee and start the hike later. Also, after the hike the plan is to head to a lunch place called "9 Main" in New Preston. Please e-mail me for any questions.
