"Bridge to Nowhere" River Hike

Historic East Fork San Gabriel River trail to the famous "Bridge to Nowhere".

Details

This 10 mile round trip hike winds through an upper senoran landscape of oaks and sycamores at very moderate elevation gains (500 ft.) while staying at river level most of the way. The magnificent "Bridge to Nowhere" is all thats left from the flood of 1938, towers over the river below once we reach it. We may even see the bungi jumpers who leap off it. River crossings are frequent so your feet might get a little wet. Trail can get rocky so bring appropriate foot wear (lightweight boots). Also bring at least 2 quarts of water, a hardy lunch, trail snacks, and sun screen. Big Horn sheep are known to frequent this area too. This hike will also be attended by members of "Greatoutdoors", a So. Cal. based gay outdoor group (which I am also a member of ). Weather may still be warm so bring a swimsuit and enjoy the river . Rain cancels this hike.

Directions

From Los Angeles head east, or from San Bernardino go west on the 210 fwy to the Azusa Ave (Hwy. 39) exit (in the city of Azusa) and go north. Stop at the ranger station at the mouth of the canyon and buy your adventure parking pass for $5.00 and then continue on to the East Fork Rd. Turn right across the green bridge and follow the river (do not turn on Glendora Mtn. Rd.) . After you cross the old trestle bridge you'll come to the parking area at the roads end. I'll have a green Dodge truck and be standing with a very handsome group of men awaiting your arrival. Please carpool and arrive promptly due to limited parking.
